Sven-David Sandstrom

Sven has a new youtube video, just superb.

Veni Veni Emmanuel (A Christmas Prayer from the Trenches) tropes the old advent Latin hymn text, its English translation by John Neale, and a WWI poem by Lt. Cyril Winterbotham in this motet-like setting by Cary Boyce for triple chorus (SSAA, SSAA, TTBB) and tenor solo. This performance is by the Indiana University Singers in 2008 with tenor Mark van Arsdale, conducted by William Jon Gray. The video “recreates” a performance visually troped with actual images from various wars and works of art that illustrate, illuminate, or comment on the text.
